Australian opening batsman David Warner produced his vintage best in the first T20I once morest the West Indies at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Friday. The player scored 70 runs in his innings off 36 balls with 12 boundaries and a six. On the strength of his brilliant innings, Australia posted a massive score of 213/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, West Indies struggled to score 202/8 in the allotted 20 overs, but Australia won the match by 11 runs. Warner, who scored his 25th half-century in his T20 career, was named Player of the Match. Speaking at the ceremony following receiving the award, he revealed that he will announce his retirement following the T20 World Cup in 2024.
