Ryanair Pilots Strike: Impact on Flights and Passengers at Brussels South Charleroi Airport

On the second day of the union action, “it’s a day like any other”, sighed the boss of BSCA, stressing that only travelers were wandering in the airport hall. “There are no strikers, only passengers who no longer have any consideration for the actions but sympathize with the people who cannot leave,” said the CEO.

“Our goal was to weigh heavily on Ryanair’s operations and it succeeded,” retorted Didier Lebbe, CNE permanent secretary. “But if the CEO absolutely wants us to come to the airport to convince the few colleagues present to stop work, we will,” he added ironically.

“The objective is not to annoy passengers by telling them at 06:00 in the morning that their flight has been cancelled. That is why we follow one principle: always give seven days notice, so that passengers do not move for nothing”, continued the trade unionist, for whom it is a question of “respect”.

The pilots of the Irish low-cost company are still demanding the restoration of their wages following the cuts granted at the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. They also point to problems with their rest time. Despite several meetings, no way out of the impasse has yet been found.

The staff have already crossed their arms twice during this summer holiday period, the weekends of July 15-16 and July 29-30

On Monday, 44 flights to and from Brussels South Charleroi Airport (BSCA) were canceled, which is as many as Tuesday for a total of 88 flights over the two days of the strike.
