Ryanair welcomed on December 7 the judgment of the Irish High Court prohibiting “ le screen-scraping ”, for violating the binding terms of use of the Ryanair website by using bot technology (bots) allowing OTAs (online “pirate” agencies) to illegally obtain screen data (by OTA pirates) on the Ryanair website.
“Ryanair has obtained a permanent injunction to stop this illegal screenshot of Ryanair data, in breach of Ryanair’s terms of service. The Ryanair site is the only site authorized to sell Ryanair flights », says Dara Brady, spokesperson for Ryanair. Screen scraping, or screen data capture, consists of copying information that is displayed on a screen of digital equipment to use it for other purposes. Screen-scraping involves a third party accessing an airline’s website and often quoting prices to their own customers through their own website.
However, Ryanair has been leading a campaign for a long time, she says, “protect its customers from price gouging by OTAs who continue to deceive unsuspecting consumers by illegally hacking the Ryanair website, including overcharging for airfares and ancillary services, using fake customer accounts, fake cards payment and fake email addresses.”
Low cost warns that this can be extremely detrimental to customers who, in addition to being overchargedcannot access their Ryanair reservations, make the necessary security declarations, access refunds or receive communications directes by email (such as email reminders)‘Online registration) of Ryanair. “This historic court decision, which jurisprudenceis a major step forward in protecting unsuspecting consumers from OTA overcharging and will help ensure Ryanair customers always benefit from the lowest fares, best customer service and real-time email communications.”
