The Crossroads of America Council in Indianapolis made a significant announcement on Monday, revealing that Ryan Kitchell, a seasoned business executive, has been appointed as the interim CEO. The council, which plays a crucial role in overseeing programs for the Boy Scouts of America across central Indiana, indicated that Kitchell will fill the shoes of Joe Wiltrout, who unexpectedly resigned from his position earlier this month.
Before taking on this new role, Kitchell held the position of executive vice president and chief administrative officer at Indiana University Health until he stepped down in 2019. Following his tenure there, he was appointed as the chair of the Governor’s Workforce Cabinet by Governor Eric Holcomb in 2022, further showcasing his leadership capabilities.
In a news release, the Crossroads of America Council emphasized that Kitchell’s extensive background in both the public and private sectors uniquely positions him for this interim role. Board Chair Deana Haworth highlighted the importance of scouting, stating, “Scouting creates opportunity for boys and girls of all backgrounds to develop the character and skills to lead our communities in the future.” She expressed confidence in Kitchell’s ability to enhance the experience for current Scouts and their families while reaching out to more families across central Indiana.
It’s noteworthy that Kitchell has a personal connection to scouting as a former board member of the Crossroads of America Council and the proud father of an Eagle Scout. Upon receiving the appointment, Kitchell expressed his gratitude and honor, stating, “The impact of Scouting on the life of a young person cannot be overstated.” He reaffirmed his optimism about the future generation of leaders, citing the leadership skills, character growth, and sense of community being cultivated among the youth involved in scouting.
In addition to his role with the Governor’s Workforce Cabinet, Kitchell is active in various organizations, serving on the boards of directors for OneAmerica Financial in Indianapolis, Old National Bank based in Evansville, and Help at Home in Chicago, showcasing his diverse leadership involvement.
Kitchell’s influence and recognition extend beyond local boundaries; he has been recognized in IBJ Media’s Indiana 250 for the last three consecutive years, highlighting his significant contributions to the state.
Joe Wiltrout, the former CEO, had headed the Crossroads of America Council since 2017, but details surrounding his resignation were not immediately disclosed by the organization. The council also announced that a search for a permanent CEO will begin soon, indicating that they will keep stakeholders informed of any developments.
