RX 7900 XT-XTX hotspot problem found! der8auer: Recall of “all” reference models of the Radeon RX 7900 XT/XTX probably the most sensible option for AMD. | The hardware community for PC gamers

Well, the 110°C hotspot problem on the recently launched RX 7900 XT/X graphics cards from AMD has now been unequivocally identified by Roman “der8auer” Hartung. The fault probably lies in an incorrectly manufactured or designed “vapor chamber”, i.e. a chamber system within the cooling block of the cooler in the reference design of both the XT and the XTX models, even if these come from Asus, MSI, Powercolor etc…. As long as the reference cooler is mounted, there is also a high risk of having gotten a direct cooler.
Since this error/defect is irreparable and occurs very frequently, AMD’s probably most sensible reaction to this is a complete (worldwide) recall of all graphics cards with this cooler design.

My 2 eurocents on that:
Interestingly, AMD has been heard here and there over the past few days, saying that they have systematically rejected RMA requests with the hotspot problem.
If you already cashed in four digits, there should still be enough for a reasonable QC in production. Since this is obviously not the case, this was, in my opinion, an avoidable, pre-programmed and self-created problem, generated by greed for profit, which hardware manufacturers seem to be doing aggressively in high season lately! Shame!
From the predictable Sh!tstorm, AMD should better take 8 and follow Roman’s recommendation to keep the tsunami as flat as possible. Especially if you look at the current shrinking of the market share from about 20% to about half, which was already the case “before” this problem, mind you.
