Ruston Kelly shares new faith-based and deeply personal ‘repair song’

After releasing his heartbreaking track “The Weakness” last month, Ruston Kelly has now shared a even more personal single titled “Mending Song”.

The emotional offering arrived on Thursday, and it’s a very confessional track, directly addressing his high-profile divorce from fellow singer Kacey Musgraves and his subsequent decision to retire to an old Victorian bungalow in the small town of Portland, NY. Tennessee, although this particular track was written during a solo trip to Joshua Tree, California. The song is from Kelly’s new album Weakness, which arrives on April 7.

“I rented this little cabin on 22 acres, just me and the coyotes, and ended up visiting a nearby store and buying a baritone ukulele,” Kelly explains. “I remember thinking, ‘This is so stupid – I’m trying to be that guy, go out to a cabin and write my album. Why not just have fun?

As he relaxed, lyrics emerged for what would become “Mending Song”: “Something grew twisted inside me / Tearing all the seams / But I was mended by my mama’s love / For fight the demons in me.”
