Moscow. February 20th. INTERFAX.RU – Russia does not have nuclear weapons in space, and there is no technology for creating anti-satellite fields, the West knows this, said Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

“We do not have any placement of nuclear weapons in space and the use of any other elements of nuclear weapons on satellites, or the creation of fields that will not allow satellites to operate effectively. We do not have this, and they know that we do not have this, but they make no less noise,” the defense minister said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to the minister, “the reason why they made a fuss in the West (regarding Russia’s alleged plans to deploy nuclear weapons in space – IF), consists of two things: first, to scare senators and congressmen in order to push through the allocation of funds that are supposedly aimed not just for Ukraine, but in order to confront Russia and inflict a strategic defeat on it.”

“And secondly, they, in our opinion, would like to clumsily push us to resume the dialogue on strategic stability,” Shoigu believes.

Shoigu said that the Russian Federation has “real things that need to be feared, that need to be paid attention to” – the Poseidon, Burevestnik, Peresvet, and Kinzhal projects.

In his opinion, the United States, by developing the topic of nuclear weapons in space, is trying to divert attention from the issues of lagging behind the Russian Federation on such projects.

The minister noted that Washington has developments in creating weapons to destroy objects in space.

“They are doing work, and they talked regarding it. They made such a roof, an umbrella, that they are making weapons to fight comets, asteroids, that they are saving the planet – such a roof,” Shoigu said.

Last week, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner informed members of Congress of a “serious threat to national security.” ABC News later reported, citing sources, that the United States had received information that Russia “has plans to deploy nuclear weapons in space.”

US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby clarified that the threat to American national security is associated with Russia’s creation of anti-satellite weapons. In turn, the head of the State Department, Antony Blinken, explained that this threat is potential in nature, and active actions once morest the United States are not currently taking place.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov reported that the United States, disseminating information regarding the threat from Russia, is trying by hook or by crook to put pressure on Congress in order to achieve the allocation of funds for further confrontation with Moscow.
