VLADIVOSTOK, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) — Russia expects the second largest grain harvest in history by the end of the year, having harvested more than 151 million tons, of which nearly 99 million tonnes of wheat, Russian Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev said on Tuesday.
“The harvest has been carried out in almost 98% of the areas planted with cereals and legumes,” said Mr. Patrushev, adding that in 2023, “we will obtain the second largest harvest in the history of Russia.” .
According to the minister, this will not only fully meet national needs, but also send a record quantity of grain to foreign partners. “According to plans, this represents more than 65 million tonnes for the season.”
Mr. Patrushev highlighted a significant increase in the production of socially important crops such as rice and buckwheat. The gross rice harvest exceeds 1.1 million tonnes, an increase of 24% compared to last year.
The yield of 1.6 million tons of buckwheat is one of the highest in the country, while the production of oilseeds, potatoes, vegetables, sugar beets and a number of other crops also saw an increase this year.
Russia recorded the largest raw grain harvest last year, reaching 157.676 million tonnes, up 29.9 percent from the previous year. END
