The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced earlier that the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) had suspended its eligibility to participate in the Ukrainian Olympic Games due to its infringement and annexation of the territorial integrity of the Olympic Games. The suspension decision “takes immediate effect.”
The Russian Olympic Committee previously announced unilaterally that it would include sports organizations from the four regions under the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian National Olympic Games as members of the ROC, which is tantamount to admitting that it has illegally annexed four Ukrainian states including “Donetsk” since launching the aggression, exceeding 15% of the territory of Uzbekistan.
IOC spokesman Mark Adams announced after the Executive Committee’s opening ceremony in Mumbai: “The Russian Olympic Committee no longer has the authority to operate as a National Olympic Committee, as defined in the Olympic Charter, nor can it Get any money from Olympic activities.”
However, according to a statement issued in March, the International Olympic Committee “recommends” that all Olympic committees allow Russian athletes who do not support the Russian military’s actions to compete as neutral athletes. In other words, Russian and Belarusian athletes can still participate in the 2024 Olympic Games as neutral athletes. 2020 Paris Olympics and 2026 Winter Olympics, etc.

The Russian Olympic Games responded angrily, calling this “another counterproductive and politically motivated decision.” Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin also condemned through social media: “The International Olympic Committee has made such a decision.” The decision shows that it is completely dependent on the political and business environment and has lost its authority and independence.”
Ukrainian President Zelensky expressed his welcome: “If Russia thinks they can use sports and the Olympics as a weapon, it will definitely not work.” He also thanked everyone who defended Olympic principles.
