Russia’s Genocide of Children: Ukrainian President Calls for Solidarity at UN General Assembly

The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskystated on Tuesday (09/19/2023) that Russia is carrying out “genocide” with the kidnapping of children, in a call for solidarity before the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he arrived yesterday amidst great expectation. “Those children in Russia are taught to hate Ukraine and all ties with their families are broken. And this is clearly genocide,” Zelensky said.

In a long-awaited speech in which he wore olive green, as he has always done since the start of the war, Zelensky reiterated his call for a summit of like-minded nations. “We are preparing a World Summit for Peace. I invite all of you – all those who do not tolerate any aggression – to jointly prepare the summit,” said the Ukrainian president, who spoke for the first time in person at this forum of the HIM.

Zelensky was the most applauded leader upon entering the chamber and was the main protagonist from the first speech, that of Brazilian president Lula da Silva. The Ukrainian president addressed the General Assembly in English, and assured that tomorrow he will present to the UN Security Council the details of his peace plan, which so far has the firm support of the European Union and the United States. .

Zelensky also stated that Russia – a permanent member of the Security Council – cannot be allowed to possess nuclear weapons. “Terrorists have no right to possess nuclear weapons,” he said, recalling that the country has brandished the nuclear threat. He also denounced that the government of Russian President Vladimir Putin uses both energy and food as a “weapon” to pressure the world.

“The aggressor is using many other things as weapons and he uses those things not only once morest our country, but also once morest yours,” he said. And he accused Russia of trying to gain the support of certain countries, which she did not identify, with under-the-table deals, warning them that “the devil cannot be trusted.”
