Russia, on Thursday, was ready for any largesse. Before the leaders of dozens of African countries gathered in Saint Petersburg, President Vladimir Putin said he was ready to offer 250,000 tonnes of cereals in the coming months to five countries hit by food shortages: Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Mali, Somalia and Central African Republic. The head of the Kremlin pronounced on this occasion the phrase that was expected of him: “Our country is in a position to replace Ukrainian cereals, he said, both commercially and in the form of aid free to the most needy African countries.”
