Agence France-Presse reported that White House National Security Council (NSC) spokesman John Kirby said at a briefing: “The intelligence we have shows that the Russian military is indeed executing soldiers who disobey orders.”

“We also have information that Russian commanders threatened to execute entire units if they tried to retreat from Ukrainian fire.”

Asked regarding the circumstances of the executions and how the United States obtained relevant intelligence, Kirby did not provide details.

Russia has intensified its attacks on areas near the town of Avdiivka in Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine, as well as the city of Kupyansk in northeastern Ukraine, in an attempt to advance the front lines before winter.

Kirby said Moscow had suffered “heavy losses” in the offensive, including at least 125 armored vehicles and “thousands” of casualties.

He said: “The Russian army seems to be using what we call human wave tactics. …As expected, the morale of the Russian army is low.” (Central News Agency, Washington, 26th)
