The United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting to discuss Russia’s large-scale air strikes in Ukraine. United Nations Assistant Secretary-General Kyari said that 2023 is coming to an end, but sadly just as it began, the Ukrainian people are once once more forced to find shelter in cold weather, clear rubble, and bury the dead.

Member states including the United States, Britain and France condemned the Russian attack. Geng Shuang, China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said that military means are not the way to resolve the crisis in Ukraine. China has always been committed to promoting peace and negotiation, ceasefire and cessation of war, and is willing to continue to communicate with all parties and work hard to promote a political settlement of the crisis.

Nebenzia, Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, said that Russian missiles and drones attacked Ukrainian military facilities, but instead pointed out that Ukrainian anti-aircraft missiles deviated from their routes and hit civilian facilities. Kiev should be responsible for civilian casualties.
