Russia’s first gold at the World Judo Championships in Doha

The Russian athlete, Arman Adamian, was crowned, on Friday, with the title of the World Judo Championship for weight under 100 kilograms, in the competitions held in Doha, to win the first achievement of Russian and Belarusian athletes in a major sports tournament since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Adamian, who participated under a neutral flag, outperformed his Czech competitor, Lukas Krbalek, in the under-100 kg final. During Adamian’s coronation ceremony, the Russian flag on the podium was replaced with the championship logo, and music was played instead of the Russian national anthem.

The International Judo Federation allowed the Russian and Belarusian players to participate in the competitions of the version that Doha is currently hosting, on the condition that they compete as neutral players on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee, especially following their participation was banned earlier due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
