The commander of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, confirmed today, Monday, that the Ukrainian forces have regained part of the town of Berkhivka, north of Bakhmut, in eastern Ukraine, describing what happened as a “disgrace.”
The commander of the Ukrainian ground forces, Oleksandr Sersky, announced today that his country’s forces are continuing to advance near Bakhmut.
Sersky said that the Ukrainian forces succeeded in destroying a Russian position near the city, adding via the Telegram messaging application, “We continue to move forward.”
Clashes continue
Ukraine’s armed forces said yesterday that the clashes continued around Bakhmut, which was heavily damaged in the east of the country, and that Moscow was still suffering “heavy losses” despite a relative decrease in the intensity of fighting in the past few days.
The Ukrainian Supreme Military Command stated in its daily report that the Russian forces carried out two failed operations around Bakhmut, and launched a number of air strikes and artillery shelling on nearby villages.

Russia announced late last month the control of Bakhmut following what became the longest and bloodiest battle of the war, but Ukraine says that its forces still maintain a limited foothold in the city, and denies that Moscow fully controls the city.
Military analysts say Bakhmut, which had a pre-war population of 70,000, has no strategic value, but Moscow has said its capture would help its forces push deeper into eastern Ukraine.
Prigozhin warned
It is noteworthy that Prigozhin said yesterday that the Ukrainian forces may have set up observation posts in Bakhmut.
“If this is the case, then wait for the next steps,” he added in an audio post on Telegram.
Prigozhin announced a few days ago that 99% of his fighters left Bakhmut following handing over the city to the Russian army.
