Belgorod/Kyiv/Vienna. “Good morning everyone except Putin’s henchmen! We have greeted the sunrise on liberated territory and we are advancing further.” With these triumphant words, the fighters of the Freedom Legion of Russia reported to their supporters on Telegram on Tuesday morning.
The liberated area that the legionnaires are talking regarding is in the Belgorod region. This Russian administrative region borders on northeastern Ukraine.
This is where the legionnaires and their allied Russian Volunteer Corps launched their most spectacular armed attack on Russian territory on Monday. Equipped with two tanks, an infantry fighting vehicle and several armored vehicles, around 80 fighters are said to have entered Russia from Ukraine and taken control of several towns near the border, just west of the district center of Graivoron.
