Moscow. November 16. INTERFAX.RU – The Second Western District Military Court in Moscow sentenced life imprisonment to the founder of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) Denis Kapustin, who in Russia was charged with organizing an attack on a village in the Bryansk region in March of this year, an attempt on the life of businessman Konstantin Malofeev and high treason, the court’s press service told Interfax.
According to the verdict, Kapustin will serve his sentence in a special regime colony, the press service reported on Thursday.
The court explained that the trial once morest Kapustin was held behind closed doors.
Kapustin’s punishment will be carried out from the moment of his detention on the territory of the Russian Federation or extradition to Russia.
According to the court file, Kapustin, in particular, was charged with high treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), organizing a terrorist community (Part 1 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities (Article 205.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ) and a number of other charges.
As reported, when arrested in absentia, Kapustin was also charged with committing a terrorist act (clause “b” of Part 3 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), illegal trafficking in weapons (Part 4 of Article 222) and illegal trafficking in explosives (Part 4 of Art. 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
On March 2, 2023, the FSB of the Russian Federation reported that measures were being taken to destroy armed Ukrainian radicals in the border region of the Bryansk region. According to the governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, Ukrainian saboteurs fired at a car in the Klimovsky district.
On March 6, the FSB announced the prevention of an assassination attempt on the chairman of the board of directors of the Tsargrad group of companies, Konstantin Malofeev, whose car was going to be blown up using an improvised explosive device.
According to the department, the organizer of both crimes was “the founder and one of the leaders of the so-called Russian Volunteer Corps, who lives on the territory of Ukraine and operates under the control of the SBU, who participates in hostilities once morest Russian troops on the side of Ukraine, Russian citizen Denis Kapustin, born in 1984.”
The FSB also called Kapustin the organizer of a sabotage and terrorist act prevented by security forces in August 2022 “using an improvised explosive device at an oil and gas complex facility in the Volgograd region.”
Rosfinmonitoring included Kapustin in the list of persons and organizations in relation to which there is information regarding their involvement in extremist activities or terrorism.
In Russia, Kapustin has been put on the international wanted list.
