According to Moscow, 21 people were killed and another 110 people were injured in an attack on the Russian city of Belgorod on Saturday. Russia warns that the attack will not go unpunished.

Russia has accused Ukraine of a “terrorist attack” on civilians in the Russian city of Belgorod. “In order to increase the number of victims of the terrorist attack, they used cluster munitions,” Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia said on Saturday at a UN Security Council meeting requested by Russia. Ukraine has set its sights on a sports center, an ice skating rink and a university. On Friday, at least 39 people were killed in Ukraine in one of the worst waves of Russian attacks since the start of the war.

Russia accuses Ukraine of attacking the city of Belgorod on Saturday. According to authorities, at least 21 people were killed and dozens more injured. Belgorod is around 30 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. It was a “deliberate, indiscriminate attack against a civilian target,” Nebensia continued. Security Council members now have “an opportunity to fulfill their duty and assess the damage done in the Russian city of Belgorod,” Nebensia continued, holding up a QR code. The code was linked to a video that Nebensia said showed the aftermath of the attack.

According to Russian information, Wilcha guided missiles and Czech-made missiles were used in the attack. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, “most” of the missiles aimed at the city were intercepted. However, several rockets and debris hit Belgorod. A child was also killed by Ukrainian shelling in the Bryansk border region, as the local governor Alexander Bogomas announced in online services. There was initially no statement from the Ukrainian side on the allegations.

Russia had requested a meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the deadly attack on Belgorod. Russian President Vladimir Putin was “informed about the attack by the Ukrainian armed forces on residential areas in Belgorod,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the Tass news agency. The Russian Foreign Ministry, which has repeatedly criticized Western arms supplies to Ukraine, accused the United States and Britain of “inciting the regime in Kiev to commit terrorist acts.”
