In a video broadcast by Russian television, the four main suspects in the Crocus City Hall attack “confessed” to having links with Ukraine.

On April 8, Russian public television broadcast a filmed interrogation of suspects in the attack on the concert hall near Moscow on March 22.

Questioned by the Russian secret services regarding his plan following the attack, one of the suspects, Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, replied in a daze that he intended to “go to kyiv”.

Money promised

He explains having received instructions from a certain “Saifullo”, which is confirmed by the other suspects, Saidakrami Rachavalizoda and Muhammadsobir Fayzov: “Saifullo said we had to go to Ukraine, to kyiv. There, we would have each received a million rubles (a little less than 10,000 euros)“, they say.

No pseudo-religious motivation is mentioned…

This Saifullo would then have confirmed to them that accomplices were waiting for them near the border with Ukraine to bring them into the country. Once there, they were supposed to contact Saifullo, says Shamsidin Fariduni, the fourth suspect.

Coerced confessions?

The four suspects, originally from Tajikistan, do not all speak Russian but nevertheless speak the language. Everything seems to indicate that these “confession” were obtained under duress.

Especially since on March 24, the four men were presented to court in a lamentable state. In images broadcast by Russian television, their physical appearance suggested brutal treatment before their appearance.

Their portraits were broadcast and very quickly one element stood out: their swollen faces. A large bandage on the ear of one of the suspects, plastic around the neck of another… If Russian interrogation methods have the reputation of being heavy-handed, here, the use of torture is obvious.

The attack claimed by the IS group

As a reminder, shortly following the attack, the terrorist group Islamic State in Khorasan claimed responsibility for the attack at Crocus City Hall in Moscow.

On March 22, Ukrainian presidential adviser Mikhailo Podoliak said that Kyiv had nothing to do with the attack. “Ukraine is obviously not involved in this terrorist attack.
