+++ 1.30 p.m.: Claus Kleber, former ZDF moderator and US correspondent, has commented on the possible further course of the Ukraine war. At Maybrit Illner, Kleber went into what the US secret service recently emphasized: Putin’s goal is still the conquest of the entire Ukraine. Kleber named Moldova and Georgia as possible next targets. According to Kleber, the Baltic states are “NATO’s Achilles heel”. An attack on Poland, on the other hand, is not a likely scenario.

+++ 12.45 p.m.: Michael Podoljak, advisor to the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj, has described the Russian rocket attacks on apartment blocks as “bloody terrorist tactics”. He was referring to the night bombing of a small town in the Odessa region, which killed at least 19 people. Dozens more were injured. The attacks are not regarding mistakes, but calculation. Contrary to Podoljak’s assessment, a Ukrainian brigadier general assumes that that obsolete Soviet missiles are the cause of civilian casualties.

A report by The Independent according to which the 57th colonel is said to have been killed. This is apparently Pavel Kislyakov. The 40-year-old was buried in Moscow on Thursday (June 30), according to the report. Kislyakov was commander of the Russian paratroopers.

It is a small town with only 7600 inhabitants. From a strategic perspective, the local oil refinery is much more important. According to estimates from Great Britain, there is currently heavy fighting around the site. Prywillya is near the city of Lysychansk, which, according to the regional military administration, is threatened by Russian encirclement. The city has been under siege for days, it was said several times. The information provided by the British Ministry of Defense cannot be independently verified.

+++ 8.30 a.m.: At least 17 people were killed in rocket attacks on the city of Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky, Odessa region. The spokesman for the Odessa regional military administration, Serhiy Brachuk, said on Telegram that three shells fell in a housing estate. Among other things, a leisure center was hit. The residential area is like a rubble field.

+++ 7.30 a.m.: At least 14 people were killed in a Russian rocket attack on a residential building in the southern Ukrainian region of Odessa, according to Ukrainian sources. The Ukrainian rescue services spoke of 14 dead and 30 injured on Friday. Three children were among the injured. The rescue work would continue, but they would be complicated by a fire. The spokesman for the Odessa regional administration, Serhiy Brachuk, had previously said that the rocket hit a nine-story apartment building in the Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky area, regarding 80 kilometers south of the port city of Odessa. The rocket was fired from a plane flying over the Black Sea. According to Ukrainian sources, the residential building was partially destroyed by the attack. The rescue workers had initially spoken of six dead and seven injured. The death toll later rose to 10 and then 14.

First report from Friday, July 1st, 6.30 a.m.: Kyiv – The situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains very serious. While Russia is showing off its military superiority in eastern Ukraine, Kyiv at least celebrate the recapture of Snake Island in the Black Sea.

The withdrawal of Russian troops will allow Ukraine to be in a better position, stressed the Ukrainian head of state Volodymyr Selenskyj. “Snake Island is a strategic point and that changes the situation in the Black Sea significantly,” he said in his daily video address on Friday night (July 1).

Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities reported a rocket attack on the port city of Odessa. As a result, at least ten people are said to have been killed. The rocket hit a nine-story apartment building, said the head of the local military administration, Serhiy Brachuk. Kyiv believes the missile was fired from a Russian military aircraft over the Black Sea.

Ukraine War: Lysychansk threatened by encirclement

Fighting is also continuing in eastern Ukraine. In Lysychansk in the Luhansk region, the defenders say they are threatened with encirclement. The refinery, located regarding seven kilometers west of the city, was fought over, the general staff said. Russian forces were advancing on the city from the south, and fighting was also going on on the western and southern city limits. The refinery has already been portrayed as completely conquered in the Russian media. The former city of Lyssychansk is the last largest town in Luhansk that is not yet under Russian control.

In neighboring Donetsk, on the other hand, Russian advances near Sloviansk and Bakhmut were repulsed, the general staff said. Along the front line, Ukrainian positions were continuously being shelled with artillery and bombarded from the air, it said. “The superiority of the occupiers in terms of firepower is extremely noticeable,” said Zelenskyj on the situation in the east.
