Russian tourists are shifting their destination from the Middle East to Asia

The joint study with the Digital Marketing Academy MAED, which focused on consumer behavior and compared it to the same period in 2023, indicated the popularity of trips to Asia and European countries by 21%.

Demand for flights to Latin America also showed an increase of 15%, and to Egypt a slight increase of 3%.

The study showed a decrease in Russian interest in traveling to the Middle East by 35%, and domestic tourism in Russia recorded negative dynamics and demand for it decreased by 6%.

The analysts behind the study emphasized that despite these multi-directional changes, the most popular tourist destinations remained unchanged and that “the most popular trips among Russians are still trips to Africa (including Egypt), Russia, Asia, Europe and Latin America.”

Among the countries of Asia and Latin America, analysts indicate increasing interest on the part of Russians in Japan and Peru.

“Excursions to Peru, Bolivia and Chile are very popular in Latin America, and tourists often choose these destinations to get maximum impressions and experience in one trip,” they said.

The study concluded that Russian tourism to Indonesia is a separate matter in itself, and although everyone knows the island of Bali there, “we have recently witnessed great interest in other islands in the country with Indonesia’s efforts to develop its tourism infrastructure and build new airports and hotels, and this is what makes it more attractive.”
