Russian tennis player Khachanov started with a victory at the Australian Open
In the opening matches of the first round of the Australian Open, two representatives of Russia out of four passed. Diana Schneider, 18-year-old Grand Slam debutant, will also continue to perform.

Russian Karen Khachanov defeated Spaniard Bernabé Zapato Miralles 7:6 (7:3), 6:2, 6:0 in the first round of the Australian Open (Australian Open).
Khachanov performs at the tournament under the 18th seed. In the next round, the 26-year-old Russian will play with the winner of the match Sebastian Baez (Argentina) – Jason Kubler (Australia).
In another match of the first round, Pavel Kotov lost to the Dutchman Tallon Grikspor with a score of 6:3, 7:6 (7:3), 6:3. The 24-year-old Russian entered the main draw of the tournament as a “lucky loser”, having lost in the qualification before that.
Anna Kalinskaya lost to American Danielle Collins (13th seed) with a score of 7:5, 5:7, 6:4. The Russian woman, ranked 64th, has not previously gone beyond the second round at the Grand Slam tournaments.
Diana Schneider defeated Kristina Kuchova (Slovakia) 7:6 (8:6), 7:5. The 18-year-old Russian woman is the debutant of the adult Grand Slam tournaments. In the second round, the 106th racket of the world will play with the Greek Maria Sakkari (6), who beat the Chinese Yuan Yue – 6:1, 6:4.
The total prize money of the Australian Open in 2023 is more than $53.4 million. The current winners in singles are Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who defeated Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final, and Australian Ashleigh Barty, who ended her career.
