More than a month after he surrendered to Ukrainian forces, here he is Russian soldier Ruslan Anitin talks about what happened to him the day he was arrested by a drone.. and to be the first soldier to be captured in this way.

Anitin goes back to the ninth of last May, when he was fighting in Bakhmut and was found by a Ukrainian drone, and at that time he was the only survivor in a trench on the outskirts of the city in eastern Ukraine.

He tried to run away from it, but it pursued him and continued throwing bombs near him, so he became terrified and looked at where the plane was flying over him, and begged whoever controlled it remotely to keep him alive in exchange for raising the white flag and surrendering.

According to a recent report in the Wall Street Journal, the Ukrainian colonel, Pavlo Fedosenko, was on the opposite end, and after consulting with his fellow officers, they sent an order over the radio to those controlling the plane to try to “take him alive.”

The information showed that the Russian soldier Anitin (30 years old) studied veterinary medicine to end up in the middle of the war, and his posts on social networks showed that he was supportive of the war on Ukraine by publishing pictures of the Russian flag, according to the newspaper.

He pointed out that after the drone attacks continued, he did not have the energy to escape, as “the idea of surrendering to the drone came to him,” to signal to the drone to stop attacking and that he wanted to surrender to them.

The pilots watched Anitine’s body language as he bobbed his head up and down to indicate “yes”, left and right to indicate “no”, and nodded to the aircraft to light once for “yes” and twice for “no”.

A drone was sent carrying a message to Anitin on a food package that read, “Surrender…follow the drone,” as he walked behind it, stopping only when the drone batteries were being replaced and returned, and he stopped once to drink water from a bottle lying on the ground and smoke a cigarette.

He continued walking until he reached the area where the Ukrainian soldiers were, knelt down and took off his helmet and protective vest, so as not to make them feel threatened, as they handcuffed him and took him away.
