Elena Vyalbe, President of the Russian Ski Racing Federation stated on the air of Match TV that Russian athletes would be more respected for refusing to compete in international competitions on the terms of the IOC.
The IOC recommended that Russians be allowed to compete in neutral status, but only in individual events. The recommendations of the IOC do not apply to athletes who supported the special operation in Ukraine or have contracts with the army or national security agencies.
“The world is trying to destroy our flag and anthem, they do not need the country of Russia. In this situation, I will not recommend it to any of my athletes, I will specifically say: I forbid it. I think most of our people will respect us more for this. It seems to me that this is much cooler than any titles and regalia, ”said Vyalbe.
Vyalbe considers traitors who agreed to compete without a flag of athletes
Vyalbe believes that previous trips to the Olympics under a neutral flag are “a really different situation” associated with punishment “for doping sins.”
“I remember very well how I told the guys that they need to make a decision, perhaps someone will refuse to go to the Olympic Games under a neutral flag. And the guys, I won’t name names, said to me: “Elena Valeryevna, forbid us to go.” And I told them: “No way. You have to go and prove that we are clean, perform with honor and dignity.” And we came from there with a great result. But now the situation is completely different, ”said the head of the FLGR.
Russian skiers are suspended from competitions under the auspices of the international federation (FIS).
