Its main advantages are efficiency, simplicity and ease of use.

ITMO scientists (St. Petersburg) together with the A.A. Smorodintsev invented an analyzer – a device capable of recognizing viruses and infections in a matter of minutes.

Before the device, PCR and rapid tests had already been invented, which also made it possible to detect viruses in the human body. However, these methods had their drawbacks: if the result of PCR tests might be ready only following four hours, then express tests might show the result much faster, but one might doubt their reliability. In addition, both diagnostic methods are designed to detect only one type of virus.

The new way of detecting infections differs from others in efficiency, simplicity and ease of use. Also, the analyzer is universal – it is able to detect coronavirus, adenovirus, influenza A and B viruses.

The technology works as follows. Any virus has proteins that are responsible for their penetration into a healthy cell. By directing a laser beam into a protein, you can see how the cell changes under the influence of the beam, as well as assess its condition. AI can also recognize cells and proteins in them, scientists trained the neural network and entrusted it with part of their work. Now it only takes 1 minute for AI to recognize if a cell is susceptible to any viral infection.
