Russian regime critic transferred to prison hospital

Kara-Murza is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence for high treason in Russia.

He is internationally recognized as a political prisoner and has for a number of years criticized the policies of President Vladimir Putin and the war of aggression in Ukraine. The 42-year-old’s health is seriously impaired following several poison attacks.

His wife says he suffers from a nervous illness and has several times previously expressed concern for her husband’s health in prison.

Kara-Murza has been in prison since last year following he repeatedly condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and advocated Western sanctions once morest Moscow.

At the end of June, he was transferred to a penal cell with stricter sentencing conditions in Siberia, his former lawyer stated.

Transfer to penal cells is often used by the prison management as a form of harassment, particularly of political prisoners. The sentencing conditions are particularly difficult. There is very little space, it is not allowed to use the bed following waking up, and the possibility of going to the air yard is very limited. Visits are limited to a short visit from relatives every six months, but even that happens at the mercy of management.
