Nikolai Chowles, son of Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, confirmed that he took part in the war in Ukraine as part of PMC Wagner. Choles spoke regarding this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.

“When I made the decision for myself to participate in the „SVO“I didn’t know how to get there properly. Because when it all started, there was not as much information as it is now. So, yes, I had to go to my father. I asked how I can properly contact the PMC. And he helped me with this,” Choles said. Why he decided to conclude a contract with PMCs, and not with the RF Ministry of Defense, he did not specify.

Speaking regarding motivation, Peskov’s son said that he went to fight because he considered it his duty. According to him, relatives supported this decision: “They asked if I was sure that I understood where I was going? I answered yes. And they said go ahead.”

In addition, Choles commented on a telephone conversation with Dmitry Nizovtsev, an associate of Alexei Navalny. Then Nizovtsev, under the guise of a military commissar, phoned his son Peskov and asked if he was ready to go to fight in Ukraine. Then Choles refused.

In an interview with the newspaper, Peskov’s son explained that at the moment when Navalny’s ally called him, he was already preparing for the service. According to him, he “was on his nerves” because of the trip, so he “told them [команде Навального]».

Choles also said that he joined the PMC under a different name. He refused to give the newspaper that name in case he needed it once more.

In addition, Peskov’s son said that he received the medal “For Courage” for “a certain military feat” committed in Ukraine.

“My entire crew accomplished a feat. We had one interesting outing. I can’t say more,” Choles said.

On April 21, the founder of PMC Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said that the son of the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, fought in Ukraine as an artilleryman in the PMC. According to Prigozhin, Dmitry Peskov personally asked him to do this.

April 22 Prigogine explainedthat Dmitry Peskov contacted him in the summer of 2022. Then, according to Prigogine, he advised the press secretary not to send his son to the Russian Defense Ministry, because there he “would have sat out at the headquarters, or gone to meat.”
