Russian Presidential Election Results March 17, 2024: Winners, Reactions, and Turnout

In second place is Nikolai Kharitonov, candidate of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF), who received 4.12% of the vote, followed by New People party candidate Vladislav Davankov who received 4.01% of the vote, said the CEC on its website.

Candidate Leonid Sloutsky of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia is fourth with 3.11% of the vote, the same source adds.

Reacting to the first results of the presidential election which took place from March 15 to 17, Mr. Kharitonov noted that the Russians have shown how the entire country can unite.

“The population (of Russia, editor’s note) has shown the international community more than ever how to unite and consolidate,” he declared during a press briefing of his party.

For his part, Mr. Davankov noted that the victory of the current Russian President Vladimir Putin in the presidential elections is beyond doubt.

“The winner is undoubtedly Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. But what is important for us is that we were able to convey our program, the party program to new people,” he told the press.

Mr. Davankov, who took part in the first presidential election of his political career, also thanked everyone who voted for him, noting that he has “never received so many messages on social networks, on Telegram” .

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and number 2 of the Russian Security Council welcomed Mr. Putin’s “resounding victory” on Sunday.

“Congratulations to VV Putin on his resounding victory in the Russian presidential elections!”, he wrote on his Telegram channel.

“Russia has made its choice,” welcomed the head of the Electoral Commission, Ella Pamfilova, confirming a “record” participation rate of 74.22%, announced by its vice-president, Nikolai Bulaev.

The turnout rate announced by the CEC is in line with the forecasts of the country’s main polling organizations, namely the Foundation for Public Opinion (FOM) and the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM), which expected on a participation rate between 70% and 80%.

For these elections which ended on Sunday, the two organs predict a large lead for outgoing President Vladimir Putin once morest his three competitors, Kharitonov, Davankov and Slutski.
