Russian opposition figure sees Russian partisan group as responsible for attack on Kremlin
According to Russian opposition figure Ilya Ponomaryov, the drone attack on the Kremlin might be the work of Russian partisans. Ponomaryov, who claims to be in contact with militant groups, told the US broadcaster CNNbut he can’t say more because the group hasn’t publicly claimed responsibility for the attack.
Ponomarev, who now lives in exile in Ukraine and Poland, was the only Russian MP to vote once morest Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014. Since then, according to Russian authorities, he has been on a list of terrorist suspects. The opposition member said he was aware of such activities in 40 Russian cities. «All partisan groups have their own focus. Some of them focus on sabotaging the railway network, some of them burn military recruiting posts. They also carry out hacking attacks, »Ponomaryov said.
In a confidential meeting, Ukrainian officials appear to have told the White House that Ukraine was not involved in the attack, reports CNN, citing two senior US officials. Mark Warner, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, told reporters there was “no evidence yet” that Ukraine was behind an alleged drone attack on the Kremlin. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously rejected any allegations regarding the incident.
