While the funeral of Russian opponent Alexeï Navalny is due to take place this Friday, March 1 from 2 p.m., his relatives have indicated that the latter’s body had not been handed over to his family a few hours before his burial.
Several hours before the start of the funeral service, several dozen people have already gathered in front of a church in the Marino district, southeast of Moscow, where the deceased lived when he was free.
Around 200 people were already waiting near the church to pay homage to the opponent, some people holding flowers in their hands, others with tears in their eyes.

The Kremlin warned once morest any “unauthorized” demonstrations on Friday, with the team of Russian opponent Alexeï Navalny having called for rallies for his funeral to which hundreds of people showed up in Moscow.
“Any unauthorized demonstration will constitute a violation of the law. Therefore, those who participate in it will be held responsible, in accordance with the current law,” said Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, quoted by the TASS agency.
According to the Orthodox rite, the body of Alexeï Navalny will be exposed in the church with an open coffin for his loved ones, before being buried at the nearby Borissovo cemetery, two hours later.
His team, however, revealed Thursday that the funeral services refused to take the opponent’s remains. “It’s a real shame. The hearse drivers are now refusing to take Alexei from the morgue,” Ivan Zhdanov, one of Navalny’s close collaborators, lamented on Telegram.
