On April 1, local time, Russian media quoted local Russian officials as saying that two Ukrainian military helicopters flew into Russia at a low altitude and struck an oil facility in Belgorod, Russia, causing a fire. Two employees at the facility were injured.
Belgorod is located regarding 35 kilometers northeast of the Ukrainian border, and residents of the streets near the scene of the incident have been evacuated. In addition, according to Russian media reports, earlier this week, an ammunition depot near Belgorod also exploded. Russia’s Kursk region’s governor said security in the Kursk region was on high alert due to Ukrainian armed forces’ airstrikes on Belgorod.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said on March 31 that the Russian army had hit a number of Ukrainian military installations the previous day, which Russia said were used by the Ukrainian army to support the fighting in the Donbas region. The Ukrainian side said on the same day that the situation in southern Ukraine and the Donbas region was severe.
