In several Russian regions, members of the non-governmental organization “Congress of People’s Deputies” (recognized as undesirable in the Russian Federation), created by former State Duma deputy Ilya Ponomarev (recognized as a foreign agent), are being searched, writes RT. RIA Novosti also reports on searches at the homes of Ilya Ponomarev’s associates.

According to RIA Novosti, searches came to the former Moscow municipal deputy Galina Filchenko and associate professor of Moscow State University Mikhail Lobanov. Mikhail Lobanov himself previously reported that they came to his apartment with searches. “Awoke. They are breaking down the door to us, ”wrote Mr. Lobanov in Telegram. The message was sent at 6:33.

According to RT, in addition to the politicians mentioned above, the security forces came to a member of the Yabloko party, Nodari Khananashvili, as well as the editor-in-chief of the St. Petersburg online publication Ladoga.ru, Alexander Kalinin. It is alleged that they took part in the meetings of the “Congress of People’s Deputies”, at one of which the “new Constitution of the Russian Federation” was adopted. Currently, the issue of bringing them to criminal responsibility as members of an organization whose activities are recognized as undesirable in Russia is being resolved, writes RT.

Ilya Ponamarev was a deputy of the State Duma of Russia of the fifth and sixth convocations (from December 24, 2007 to June 10, 2016), a member of the Just Russia faction. On March 20, 2014, he was the only one who voted once morest the annexation of Crimea to Russia. In the summer of 2014, Mr. Ponomarev left Russia. In 2019, he received Ukrainian citizenship. At the end of August 2022, he was arrested in absentia for spreading fakes regarding the Russian army. On October 8, 2022, the Ministry of Internal Affairs put Ilya Ponomarev on the wanted list under a criminal article.

The “Congress of People’s Deputies” was created in Poland in 2022. Its founders, in addition to Ilya Ponomarev, were former State Duma deputy Gennady Gudkov and former lawyer Mark Feigin (both recognized by the Ministry of Justice as foreign agents). On April 28, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia recognized the activities of the organization as undesirable.
