Russian missile hit houses and railway infrastructure in Cherkasy

On April 24, 2024, a Russian missile struck the Cherkasy region in central Ukraine, damaging vital infrastructure and injuring six people, according to the region’s governor.

The attack hit civilian and railway infrastructure in the city of Smila, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force said in a television broadcast. An Iskander-K missile was used in the attack, based on preliminary information, the spokesman added.

The shock wave and debris also damaged 47 private homes and broke windows in a high-rise residential building, Cherkasy Governor Ihor Taburets said via Telegram.

According to the protothema, its air defense Ukrainian shot down the aerial target, he said, adding that emergency services were working at the scene.

Russian forces have previously damaged rail infrastructure in an April 19 strike in the Dnipro region, Ukraine’s National Railways reported on Telegram.
