▶︎ From there, the hoax spread to social media. On Elon Musk’s X news service, which was flooded with Russian propaganda, “King Charles” became the “number 1 trend in Germany” within a few hours with more than 75,000 post mentions.

Shortly followingwards, “RoyalAnnouncement” made it to third place in Germany with 18,000 mentions.

The reason: Numerous fake accounts spread the additional false report of an imminent confirmation from the royal palace in London. Would-be news platforms even claimed to have discovered a flag flown at half-mast – but all of that is untrue.
