The websites of Maastricht Aachen Airport and the association of public transport companies were difficult to reach on Monday due to a cyber attack. A Russian hacker group claims to be responsible for the attack.
The websites maa.nl and ov-nl.nl were difficult to reach due to a so-called DDoS attack. Then a server is flooded with so much data traffic that the websites become unreachable.
A spokesperson for Maastricht Aachen Airport reported on Monday evening that the website is working as it should once more. The daily work at the Limburg airport continued as usual. The possible attack had no consequences for air traffic.
The site of ov-nl, the association of public transport companies, was also offline on Monday. But the trains, trams, buses and metros just drove. According to ov-nl, the site has “no operational value”.
The attack on the websites is according to the Russian hacker group NoName0571 in retaliation for the Dutch decision to give naval vessels to Ukraine. Cybercriminals have recently launched attacks once morest Ukraine’s allies.
For example, the group previously attacked the sites of De Rechtspraak, the Senate and the ports of Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Den Helder, Eemshaven/Delfzijl and Vlissingen/Terneuzen. Those attacks also had no direct consequences for the work there.
