A Russian general, a high-ranking officer in the Northern Fleet, was killed in the combat zone in Ukraine, the governor of the Russian region of Voronezh (South-West) announced Monday where this officer had served.
“Brigadier General Vladimir Zavadsky, deputy commander of the 14th Army Corps of the Northern Fleet, died at a combat post in the special operation zone” in Ukraine, Governor Alexander Gusev said on Telegram, without providing details on the circumstances of his death.
“I am convinced that the name of Vladimir Zavadsky, a courageous officer, a true general and a worthy man, will remain forever in the annals of the glory of our homeland,” continued Mr. Gusev, saluting the “loyalty” of the general .
According to Russian Telegram channels close to the army, the officer died on November 28 by jumping on a mine, behind the front.
Several senior officers of the Russian army have been killed since the start of the offensive in Ukraine in February 2022 and their deaths are not always confirmed from official sources, with Russian authorities rarely communicating regarding their losses.
The announcement of the death of Vladimir Zavadski comes as Russian troops have been on the offensive in eastern Ukraine since October and the end of the unsuccessful Ukrainian summer counter-offensive.
The Russians are carrying out attacks in particular in the North-East, in the Kupiansk area, and in the East where they are trying to surround the industrial town of Avdiïvka.
