Since the beginning of this year (from January 1 to May 12), Russian gas supplies through the Power of Siberia pipeline to China have increased sharply, increasing by 37.4 percent compared to the same period in 2023. The media write regarding this with reference to Gazprom’s Telegram channel.
The energy holding clarified that in April, supplies in this direction increased by 57.1 percent year on year. At the same time, the company did not disclose the specific volumes of fuel pumped through Power of Siberia.
Gazprom explained this dynamics by a number of factors, including the conditions stipulated in the agreement with the Chinese CNPC for the annual increase in supplies, as well as the stable provision of fuel pumping through the pipeline in excess of contractual obligations.
Thus, since the beginning of 2024, the record for daily supplies of Russian gas to China has been updated six times, the holding clarified. Such factors, according to Gazprom, indicate China’s continued interest in pipeline fuel from the Russian Federation.
Earlier, the RIA Novosti agency, citing a review by analysts of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), reported that it would not be possible to commission the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline to increase Russian gas supplies to China until 2033. The annual design capacity of the pipeline will be 50 billion cubic meters.
