Dozens of etched blue Stars of David were spotted on building facades in Paris and the suburbs. A Moldovan couple was arrested and the alleged perpetrator, a pro-Russian Moldovan businessman, was identified. In November, France also condemned “Russian digital interference” in the case.

It is recalled that since November 2023, the French media, citing investigations by the police authorities, estimated that the formation of graffiti with the Star of David on buildings in Paris was the work of the Russian secret services.
The Paris prosecutor’s office had ordered an investigation following unknown people painted the symbol of the Jewish religion and the state of Israel on several buildings in Paris.
Around 60 stars of David were drawn in blue paint on many building facades in the 14th arrondissement in the French capital.
The specific episode sparked a reaction from the international community, with representatives of the political scene making comparisons to Nazi-era graffiti once morest Jews. However, the message behind the graffiti might not be clearly explained.

What the French newspaper Monde wrote
French media with knowledge of the ongoing investigation had taken the reasoning one step further, “pointing” to a pro-Russian Moldovan businessman who has now been identified as the mastermind.
As the French newspaper Monde had written, the graffiti was created in late October by two separate couples accompanied by a photographer whose job it was to publish the images immediately online. The paper said the images first appeared only on accounts linked to the Doppelgänger network.
French police had claimed that the first couple – to be arrested – claimed to be on holiday in Paris when they were approached by a man who overheard them speaking Russian and offered them a small sum of money.
The second couple fled France before being arrested. The accompanying photographer or photographers remain unknown.
Citing investigative sources, Monde had written that the cheap mode of operation, with poorly paid casuals, is typical of today’s Russian intelligence service, which was hit hard by the expulsion of spies from Western capitals following the outbreak of war in Ukraine.
As for the purpose of the Star of David operation, like all “dezinformatsiya” (disinformation) operations, it seems, according to the French media, that it was to sow confusion in public opinion.
