Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow would react “appropriately” if the G7 decides to ban all exports to Russia.

“If new sanctions are introduced, we will react, but we will react, as always, thoughtfully, carefully, balanced,” Ms. Zakharova said during the the briefing. She did not disclose more specific information about the possible measures of the Russian side.

According to her, taking retaliatory measures against Western sanctions, Moscow will be guided by the interests of the state and citizens, the tasks of maintaining the stability of the domestic economy and the interests of business.

On April 20 and 21, Bloomberg and Kyodo news agencies reported that the G7 countries (Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, USA, France, Japan) are discussing the transition to a sanctions regime against Russia, when almost all exports to the country are prohibited and exception lists are formed, which are allowed to be imported.

The Financial Times newspaper specified that the United States made a corresponding proposal, but representatives of the EU countries and Japan did not support the initiative. Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev said that if sanctions are tightened to an almost complete ban on the export of goods to the Russian Federation, the execution of the grain deal will end.
