In a report today, Minister Shoigu explained, “The LPR Territory Complete Liberation Operation started on the 19th of last month and ended the day before,” and explained that the Central and LPR Army units successfully carried out this operation with the support of the Southern Army units.

He said that he liberated 25 residential areas, including Severodonetsk, Lisichansk, and Zolotoye in the two-week operation. In the process, the Ukrainian army suffered 5,469 casualties, including 2,218 killed. It said that 196 tanks and armored vehicles, 166 cannons and mortars, and 97 multiple rocket guns were lost.

“The operation (LPR occupation) was completed yesterday with the liberation of Lisichansk, one of the largest cities in the LPR,” he said. He announced that the operation was continuing.

The day before, Shoigu reported to Putin that “through a successful military operation, we have gained complete control over Lisichansk, a key strategic point in Lugansk Oblast.”

On the same day, the Ukrainian army also confirmed the Russian announcement, saying that it had “decided to retreat from Lisichansk.”

Lisichansk was where the Ukrainian forces fought the last battle in Luhansk Oblast, and Russia gained control of the entire Luhansk Oblast by securing this area.

Now, the Russian military is expected to focus on the attack on Donetsk Oblast, which together with Luhansk Oblast make up the Donbas region.
