Russian forces hit Kherson: two hospitals were damaged, one person was killed

Ukraine and Poland will open a border crossing for empty trucks on Monday

Ukraine and Poland will open the Dorohusk border crossing to empty trucks on Monday to ease a blockade by Polish hauliers whose protests have paralyzed traffic for weeks.

The drivers, who started the protest on November 6, are demanding commercial licenses for Ukrainian trucking companies, and they want the licenses of companies established in Ukraine after Russia’s full-scale war to be suspended.

On Sunday, the border service in Kyiv announced that starting Monday, the Dorohusk crossing will be opened for empty trucks going from Ukraine to Poland. Currently, only cars and buses can pass through the crossing.

The release said the opening of the crossing point is one of many measures being implemented to unblock the border, reduce queues and increase capacity on the Ukrainian-Polish border.

On Friday, Kyiv said the consequences of the Polish truckers’ protest would be catastrophic, adding that Ukrainian drivers stuck at the border were in a dire situation.

Huge queues formed on both sides of the border and many drivers were stuck in their vehicles in freezing temperatures and with little food supplies.

Warsaw said this week that it would tighten controls on Ukrainian trucks on roads leading to the border to appease protesting truckers.

But the protests continue, and on Friday one of Slovakia’s largest truck drivers’ unions joined them, saying they were put at a disadvantage by the removal of Ukraine’s permits.
