Russia announced on Thursday that its forces took control of the village of Pobeda, a small village located 5 kilometers west of the city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine.

According to the Sky News website, the Russian Defense Ministry said, “On the Donetsk front, units from the southern group liberated the village of Pobeda and improved their positions along the front line.”

The village is located southwest of the city of Marinka on the Donetsk axis.

Controlling it contributes to the rapid orientation of Russian forces to two strategic towns, Kostantinevka and Ugeldar, south of Pobeda.

Russian forces had previously controlled the strategic city of Marinka, located west of Donetsk, and then advanced to the village of Pobeda, where they took control of the eastern neighborhoods and farms located to the east of the town, before seizing it completely.

The control of this village comes a few days following Russian forces took control of the strategic city of Avdiivka, located north of Donetsk.

By controlling Avdiivka and Marinka, Russian forces succeeded in removing Ukrainian forces from the city of Donetsk, which was being bombed by Ukrainian forces from these two cities.
