Ukraine fears an attack by Russia. Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko is therefore asking the international community for support. Russia strives for world power. After Ukraine, the Kremlin will focus on the Baltic states, warns the ex-boxer.
Shortly before the visit of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Ukraine, the Mayor of the Ukrainian capital Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, appealed to the international community to stand with his country. “We are prepared for the worst in Ukraine, the world must help us now,” Klitschko told the “Bild am Sonntag”.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is striving for world power, “and the West should know that following Ukraine it will be the turn of the Baltic states. We are only the beginning.” When Scholz and other heads of state talk to Putin, they should make one thing clear to him: “Our whole country will defend itself once morest an attack and there will be serious consequences.”
Scholz wants to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj in Kiev on Monday. On Tuesday he will travel to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The mayor of Kiev and ex-boxing world champion Vitali Klitschko, who was considered the presidential candidate for 2024, assured on a talk show in early February: “If military aggression begins, then I will take an assault rifle and go fight for Ukraine.”
Russia has massed more than 100,000 troops on the Ukrainian border in recent weeks. The US government is warning of a possible Russian invasion of the neighboring country before the end of next week. Russia denies this and for its part accuses the USA of increasing the risk of war itself by warning of Russian aggression.
