Andrei Kelin, interviewed by the BBC on Saturday, said the actions of NATO member countries, “particularly the UK”, risked prolonging the conflict and triggering a “new dimension” in the war.
The diplomat argued that Russia had “enormous resources” and, although the war has been raging for a year, assured that his country had not yet “really acted seriously” on the matter.
Mr Kellin said: “Russia is 16 times bigger than Ukraine. We have enormous resources. Sooner or later, of course, this escalation might enter a new dimension that we neither need nor want. We can make peace tomorrow”.
Asked regarding the mounting evidence of war crimes perpetrated by Russia, the ambassador assured that Ukraine was the one responsible for war crimes.
He then claimed that the United Nations had no power to investigate war crimes.
