Russian Defense Minister Shoigu visited Russian military units in Ukraine. The move appears to be an effort by the presidential office to continue to support Shoigu even following Prigozhin, the founder of the Russian private military company Wagner, called for the removal of the military chief.
Russian state television broadcast on Saturday showed Shoigu meeting with senior officials at what the Ministry of Defense described as the front headquarters of the Western Military District of the Russian Army, which is stationed in a combat zone in Ukraine. The ministry said on the Telegram communication app that Shoigu had been briefed “on the current situation, the nature of the enemy’s actions and the conduct of combat missions by Russian forces.”

For months, Prigozhin had lashed out at Shoigu for his failure to invade Ukraine and for his attempt to “destroy” Wagner.
President Putin has not appeared since his televised speech on the morning of the 24th, in which he described the armed uprising as a “betrayal” and expressed his intention to severely punish those involved. Prigogine’s whereregardings are also unknown.
