The Russian Ministry of Defense released footage on Saturday, showing Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu inspecting the combat training of soldiers at a firing range in the southern Russian military district.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Saturday that Minister Sergei Shoigu had inspected troops and supervised the training of newly formed units made up of contract soldiers.
The ministry posted a video clip on its Telegram channel, in which Shoigu appeared, dressed in military uniform, inspecting soldiers at a shooting range.
This is his first public appearance with the troops since the Wagner Private Military Group mutiny was nipped in the bud last month.
The ministry did not say when the video was filmed or when Shoigu inspected the troops.
Shoigu said on Monday that the rebellion had not affected Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine.
Wagner fighters took control of the city of Rostov in southern Russia and marched towards the capital, Moscow, on June 24, as the head of the group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, demanded the dismissal of Shoigu and the Chief of the General Staff, Valery Gerasimov.
The rebellion ended when Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko brokered a deal between the Kremlin and Prigozhin.
The Ministry of Defense said today, Saturday, that “the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation himself supervised the training of contract soldiers for combat operations in various conditions, including combat in urban areas.”
