Uefa decides further sanctions against Russian football. All clubs will be excluded from the upcoming European Cup season. The Russian national teams are also not allowed to take part in the upcoming events.
The exclusion of Russian clubs from next season’s European Cup will result in a new allocation of starting places. For Switzerland, this means that FC Zurich, as champions, will only intervene in the 2nd qualifying round instead of the 1st.
The cup winners – either Lugano or St. Gallen – also have one less hurdle to overcome on their way to the group stage of the Conference League. He starts in the 3rd and penultimate qualifying round.
Russian Nati sanctioned again
The following additional sanctions have been decided by the UEFA Executive Committee:
– The Russian women’s national team cannot take part in the European Championships in England in July and will be replaced by Portugal. In the World Cup qualification, all previous results will be cancelled.
– The men’s team will be excluded from the next Nations League. It will automatically be relegated to League C as the last in Group 2 from League B. The U21 will be excluded from the ongoing European Championship qualification.
– The submitted Russian bids for the 2028 and 2032 European Championships will not be accepted by UEFA. They are inadmissible because the applicants have to ensure that their behavior does not bring football into disrepute. (cat/SDA)
