The first decisions to terminate Russian citizenship of persons who acquired it for crimes were made in five regions of the country, transmits December 27 TASS with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. Including in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region. Decisions were also made in Moscow, the Moscow region and the Tver region.

Persons in respect of whom a decision has been made to terminate Russian citizenship will be expelled from the territory of the country following serving their sentence in prison.

Let us remind you that on October 26 a new law came into force in Russia. According to it, a person who previously acquired Russian citizenship (not by birth) may be deprived of it for committing certain categories of crimes or creating “threats to the national security of the country.”

The list of articles includes, for example, evasion of military and alternative civilian service, drug trafficking, and public calls for terrorist activities. However, the norm that applies when rape is committed does not apply, for example, when murder is committed.
