Russian boxer Murat Gassiev defeated American Mike Balogan in the REN TV Fight Club tournament, thus becoming the owner of the WBA Intercontenental heavyweight championship belt. About it informs “Sport Express”. The fight took place in Yerevan.
The fight ended at the beginning of the second round – Gassiev knocked out the opponent, Balogan might not get up following the referee counted ten seconds. In the first round, the American was the first to deliver targeted blows to Gassiev, but gradually the Russian took control of the center of the ring.
Ex-world boxing champion Russian Gassiev received Armenian citizenship
29-year-old Murat Gassiev won 30 victories in 31 fights, Balogan – 20 victories, 16 of them ahead of schedule. He received his only defeat in a battle with Gassiev.
Gassiev holds the WBA Asia and EBP Eurasian heavyweight titles. Previously, he competed in the first heavyweight division. He failed to cope only with the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk in 2018, due to the defeat, Gassiev lost his IBF and WBA championship belts. On March 1, Gassiev received Armenian citizenship.
