Billionaire Igor Makarov has renounced his Russian citizenship, according to Forbes. At least in his profiles on the website of the American magazine, the information in the corresponding column has changed. According to the certificate, in 2023 he refused a Russian passport – and now he has only one citizenship, Cyprus.

Makarov himself did not declare the renunciation of Russian citizenship. The Russian Forbes sent a request to the representative of the businessman, but did not receive a response.

In September 2022, Igor Makarov was included in the list of Russians and Ukrainians published by the Politic newspaper, which was previously classified by the authorities. It listed persons under suspicion by the Cypriot government due to the issuance of “golden passports” in exchange for investments in 2008-2012, recalls “Kommersant”.

At the moment, Makarov is ranked 1468th in the ranking of the richest people in the world according to Forbes with a fortune of $ 2.1 billion. The basis of his fortune is investments in Western markets. After the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, Makarov was sanctioned by the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

After February 24, 2022, several current and former members of the Forbes list announced their withdrawal from Russian citizenship. Among them are investor Timur Turlov, founder of Troika Dialog Ruben Vardanyan, investor Yuri Milner, founder of Revolut Nikolai Storonsky, and founder of Tinkoff Bank Oleg Tinkov.
